More support needed to help neurodiverse children - Radio NZ

Groups supporting children with conditions such as autism and dyslexia say a government action plan has failed to deliver.

The Neurodiversity in Education Coalition says the plan began in 2019 but has so far changed almost nothing for those who need help.

The coalition says teachers need more training, more support, and more help identifying neurodiverse children.

Education Minister Jan Tinetti says a comprehensive review of the learning support system is underway in partnership with the disability community. She says the Government invests $1.3 billion in learning support a year and the total Ministry of Education Specialist staff in March this year was 1009 full-time equivalents.
